Introduction

This module spans a two-day in-person session with a primary focus on the underlying etiology of pressure injuries and pressure ulcers, along with comprehensive strategies for their holistic management. Participants will integrate theory with practical application, gaining a thorough understanding of the anatomy and physiology associated with pressure ulcers and complicated wounds. The implementation and demonstration of international pressure injury guidelines are integral to the course. Practical skills sessions encompass:

  • Application of Negative Wound Pressure Therapy
  • Utilization of off-loading and pressure redistribution devices
  • Deployment of aids in lifting and transferring patients

Upon completing the module, learners will possess the ability to differentiate between various types of pressure injuries, moisture-associated skin damage (MASD), and skin tears. They will also comprehend the application of Negative Wound Pressure Therapy in wound care. As a mandatory component, participants are expected to undergo a 4-hour practical session at an accredited Wound Care Centre.

Prerequisites: Module 1: Short Course in Wound Care (Passed) AND Registered Health Care Professional at HPCSA/SANC

Certification

To qualify for the certificate of completion for this short course, participants should fully attend the course and successfully complete the assessment process and practical hours. The course is accredited for 16 CPD points (HPCSA)
