Module 3: Managing the Lower Limb in Practice (2024/09/04)

Module 3

Introduction

This module comprises a two-day in-person session centered on the fundamental etiology of lower limb ulcers and the holistic management of patients affected by these conditions. Participants will bridge the gap between theory and practice, gaining a profound understanding of the physiology underlying lower limb ulcers. The practical skills sessions encompass:

  • Conducting an Ankle-Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI) and vascular assessment
  • Taking leg measurements
  • Applying compression stockings
  • Employing compression bandages

Upon module completion, learners will demonstrate the ability to distinguish between various types of leg ulcers. They will also be proficient in the application of both short and long stretch compression bandages. As an integral part of the module, participants are mandated to engage in a 4-hour practical session at an accredited Wound Care Centre.

Prerequisites: Module 1: Short Course in Wound Care (Passed) AND Registered Health Care Professional at HPCSA/SANC

Certification

To qualify for the certificate of completion for this short course, participants should fully attend the course and successfully complete the assessment process and practical hours. The course is accredited for 16 CPD points (HPCSA)
